Research Update: BPA and ADHD behaviors

Truth be told, there is not much new being reported about Inattentive ADHD in medical research journals these days but I did find a new  report on bisphenol A (BPA) and ADHD like behaviors in the Environmental Research journal that confirms what researchers have suspected about the link between ADHD behaviors and BPA.

The report, cited below, concluded that, "Childhood urinary BPA concentrations were associated with increased externalizing behaviors, including conduct problems, in girls at age 7 and increased internalizing behaviors and inattention and hyperactivity behaviors in boys and girls at age 7."

This is not new information.  The dangers of bisphenol A have been reported on for years and researchers have had concerns about the associations of BPA exposure in early life with ADHD and conduct problems as well as with problems such as anxiety, depression, and hyperactivity in children.

Many manufacturers such as the Coca-Cola company are now using BPA free containers and most companies that make baby bottles do the same but the Mayo Clinic recommends that you should avoid the use of plastic containers when storing hot foods and ligquids. They recommend the use of glass, porcelain or stainless steel containers  instead.

Some plastics with BPA have the recycling symbol 7 on them.  These are rigid plastics used in certain food containers and used to store three- and five-gallon water bottles.   You can read more tips about avoiding BPA containers at this link.

  1. Hi there, great site! I clicked on the link in your resources page for the tool to help middle school students, Notely, and the site does not seem to exist anymore. I cannot find anything about that site past 2007. Do you have any other suggestions?

  2. Hi,

    Thanks for your kind comment!

Notely was a simple note taking app. It is still available for android but there are far better apps now. One that I like is called Simple Notepad. Another good app is called "ColorNote".
